Quarry Park Winston- Salem, NC

Image
Yesterday I went with my friend, Pat, to Quarry Park in Winston Salem, NC.   I tried taking some architectural type images with my P & S Luminex.  So, since the lens is limited, the buildings in the distance are not sharp.  Minor editing with Windows Media software.

Close up of Bark on Chinese Elm Trees.

Image
On Sunday I went to the NC Folk Festival in downtown Greensboro. While I was at the music venue stage for LeBauer Park, I noticed some trees with bark and saw an opportunity to capture some abstract images of the textures close up.  Images taken with my iPhone 6S. On Monday I sent an email to the Greensboro Parks & Recreation to find the name of the tree.  It is a Chinese elm and has been referred to as lace bark. I plan to go back and try to capture more images. It reminds me of paintings I have seen in art museums.

Mushroom CU - Texture & Design

Image
My neighbor had some unusual mushrooms in his yard after a lot of rain.  I wanted to show the design and texture of nature.  The image on the left has minor editing with PSE 15  I appled a paint dauber filter to the image on the right which gave more texture..

Clouds While at Shopping Centers

Image
Love to take images of clouds at different times of the day and different locations.  Shopping malls are a great place as more of the sky visible unlike residental areas that have trees or wires.  These were taken in Greensboro, NC, in the afternoon.   Taken with iPhone 6S but images only downsized. I have joined a Facebook group: Cloud Nine Photography.

Crepemyrtles (Lagerstroemia) CU

Image
Crepemyrtle (Lagerstroemia) shrubs are very common in the South.  They come in various colors and there about 50 species.  I do not have one in my yard but there are many varieties in my neighborhood.  It is difficult to get a close up with the iPhone because of the shallow depth of field.  The image on the left shows the stamens whereas the image on the right shows the berries.  Slight editing in PSE as these+ were taken in bright sunlight mid afternoon. For the image on the right I decided to use the posterize edges which makes it look more like a graphic design and brings out the texture more of the back petals.which were more a blob--also applied a vignette.   For more information about crepemyrtles check out Wikipedia
