Chaste Tree-Shrub ( Vitex agnus-castus)

Image
When I saw this plant/shrub I had no idea what it was.  I knew it was not a butterfly bush.  So, I decided to use my Plant Snap app for the iPhone to see if it would correctly identify or at least give me more info to search the Internet. At first it told me it was an American wisteria but I did not think that was correct.  Images taken with my iPhone 5S.  Minor editing.  Vignette put on left image. Vitex (chaste tree, Vitex agnus-castus) blooms from late spring until early fall with long, upright spikes of pink, lilac and white flowers. Any shrub or tree that blooms all summer is well worth planting, but when it also has pleasantly fragrant flowers and foliage, it becomes a must-have plant. Chaste tree garden care is easy, but there are a few care essentials you need to know to get the most from this outstanding plant. Some Southerners use this plant as a substitue for lilac bushes which do not do well in the heat and humidity. Read more at Gardening Know Ho...

Fushia Hydragnea

Image
There are several neighbors that grow hydrangeas but I liked the color of these blossoms which are fushia.  These would look pretty dried for an arrangement in your house.  Taken with iPhone 5S and no editing.   It was late evening.

Orange Ornamental Poppy Close Up & Altered Image

Image
One of my neighors has an ornamental poppy growing in his yard. These bushes are originally from Japan.  I tried to take a picture of the blossoms close up.  Later these plants may have fruit or not.  These plants are dwarf in size and have carnation like petals, They come in various colors. These images were taken with the iPhone 5S,  I altered the right image in PSE 15 buy using a posterizing filter.  I put the blossom in a air plant container to show a more still life effect.

Echinacea Purpura (Purple Coneflower)

Image
Echinacea  purpura (Purple Coneflower) is a pretty perennial summer flower. It is a member of the daisy family.Oy   Bees love this plant. Now there are more hybrid colors available in the nurseries.  Images taken with iPhone 5S late evening in a neighbor's yard.  In addition to adding beauty to your garden, this plant has medicinal uses.  Do not take own on your own without consulting your primary care provider.

Dusty Miller Plant & Altered Image

Image
"Dusty Miller" is a pretty texture plant for foilage in your garden/yard. Right image shows one a Silverado cultivar --only minor editing in PSE.  However,  I wanted to go for a more artistic version using invert filter in PSE 15 and then saturation until I liked the colors.  Not exactly Andy Warhol.  LOL
